PRE-OPERATIVE INSTRUCTIONS

FASTING
No food is to be given from 9pm the night before. Water is allowed but no other fluid (ie. no milk). Please take care to remove all other pets' food that may be accessible.

MEDICATION
If your pet is on any medication, please consult the veterinarian prior to the surgery date to confirm if any changes are needed.

ILLNESS
If your pet has had any illness in the last week or so, no matter how minor, please let us know prior to admission.

TRANSPORT
Dogs - on a lead
Cats - in a comfortable box or closed basket

BATHING
If possible please give your dog a bath the day before surgery, especially as it will be unable to be bathed until the sutures are removed. It also reduces the time your pet is under anaesthetic as it decreases the time required to aseptically clean the surgery site.

ADMISSION
Please allow your pet time to go to the toliet before admission.
Admission time is usually between 8am and 9.30am.

DISCHARGE
Please give us a call at 3pm that afternoon to check if your pet is okay to go home that evening. Although we endeavour to send animals home as soon as possible, we need to keep them quiet and confined until they are awake enough. This sometimes requires a overnight stay in hospital.
